Two teams from Clymping travelled to Porchester on a lovely November day, to play in this regional competition. This event is run by the SCPA as a thank you to club committee members and is an anual event. Clymping 1 (Marilyn, Keith R & Keith W) had a rather poor day only managing to to get into the Plate Consulage final but, Clymping 2 (Diana, Joy, Greg and Michael) had a much better day, winning the plate. Well done them!

30th October

Adur Halloween Doubles

Congratulations must go to Greg and Marilyn who ventured out in torential rain to play in Adur's Halloween Doubles. After winning their morning games they easily qualified in the Gold in the afternoon. They won their first game after lunch, then played in the semi-final against two very experienced players. They took them to 10-10 but, unfortunaly, just got pipped at the post. However, a great achievement and something to be proud of!

3rd October

Worthing Autum Doubles

3 teams from Clymping entered this event. Janet & Brian (playing in thier first Open), Steve & Michael and Marilyn & Keith. Congratulations to Steve & Michael who beat Worthing's Betty & Carol to win the Silver, a close game played in a heavy shower.

25th September

10 teams (5 ladies & 5 men) played through the rain in the most important competition in the clubs calendar, the Battle of the Sexes. (This is probably the most important competition in the world too). The result was a little disappointing for the ladies but, the men need to be careful next year as the ladies are getting better!

9 wins for the men & 5 for the ladies, last year it was 11-3 respectively so, next year could be different!

We all had a great time and a very special thanks must go to Roy & Viv who provided a super lunch of hot dogs, burgers & salad. Thank you both.

8th August

Clymping Open Triples

After a difficult first 18 months due to covid, Clymping Pétanque Club held their first ever Open Triples Competition on Sunday 8th August. 12 teams battled it out in torrential rain for a place in the afternoons Gold Knockout. Having got totally drenched, we then stopped for lunch and a dry-out in the bar in preparation for the afternoon.

Fortunately, the rain stopped, and the sun even made a welcome appearance for an hour or so!

We had 8 teams in the Gold Knockout and the remaining 4 played a 3-game snake for the Spoon.

There was an amazing range of players from all four corners of the region and beyond. (One player travelled all the way up from South Wales!) It was particularly pleasing to see so many new players from Clymping (13) enter this event, many playing in their first ever Open.

We have had numerous messages of thanks from players who all agreed that, despite the rain, they had a lovely day and can’t wait for the next one! Well done everyone and thank you all for supporting us. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The results;

Gold Winners: Steve Daykin, Phil Bradshaw, Pat Dennis

A great result for our league team today, winning 5 - 0 at home against Worthing. However, the overall score does not reflect the quality of the opposition as several of the games were only won by a point or two. Well done to all that took part in a very hard fought match.

19th June

Clymping hosted the Southern Counties Petanque Association's Adult/Junior competition, our first regional event. The day was very successful and everybody had a good time. It was extremely  gratifying to see some very young players taking part and a big thankyou goes to the adults who supported them. Hopefully we will see more events like this at Clymping.

After waiting for over a year due to the Covid bug, we hosted our first Open competition today. We had sixteen teams, the maximum we could cope with under the PE covid guidelines, from all over the region, with clubs from Adur, Arundel, Cranleigh, Handcross and Worthing all represented.
The final results were;

Winners, Nigel Sibling and Martin Gordon from Handcross & Worthing

Semi-finalists, Steve Impett & Marilyn Wannell from Clymping

1st October

Our rain shelter is now up and ready for use.

20th September

4 doubles from Clymping played 4 doubles visiting from Worthing today. This little competition was aimed at giving some of our newer players a little bit of inter-club competition. We had a fantastic day with good results for both clubs. The two Peters from Worthing was the best team of the day, winning all four of their games but, Clymping was the best club beating Worthing 11 games to 5. Well done to all who played.

17th September

6 Clymping players travelled to Worthing to play them in the SCPA Autumn Cup competition. Unfortunately Worthing Simpson's won 4 games to 1. Hopefully we we will do better when they come to us!

12th June

After a long lock-down, we are now back to playing regularly and to celebrate the re-opening we have added another session. We now play on Friday evenings at 7pm. Come along and give it a try!

4th January 2020 - Opening Day Melee

On a cold but dry day, 48 people turned out to play in our opening melee and at least another dozen came along to watch. With 8 Pistes, this was the maximum number we could accommodate so it was pretty busy. Everyone seemed to have a good time and it was very encouraging to have so many very experienced players trying out our terrain for the first time.

We played a 3 game melee and the final results were;

Overall winner, Our very own Mike Davies (playing in his first ever competition)

Best of 2 wins, Gina Wilkins from Cranleigh

Best of 1 win, Chris Peat from Oxshott

Friendliest Player, Greta Roberts from Worthing

Well done all and a big thank you to everyone for supporting us today.

29th December - Arundel Winter Doubles

Clymping PC entered two teams in this competition, played at Worthing due to a flooded terrain at Arundel, and had a fantastic day. Both teams had a great morning and both qualified in the top 8 (Gold) for the afternoon knockout. Diana and Michael finished 7th and Marilyn and Keith finished 5th, winning the Gold Consolage. To finish 5th and 7th out of 37 is a fantastic result for our club.

Opening Day Confirmed!

President of the SCPA, Mr Steve Lombard, is to open our terrain at 10:15 am on the 4th January. This will be followed by a 3 game melee. Please let us know if you would like to take part.

29th October 2019 SCPA Secretaries Cup

On a cold but sunny October day, Marilyn, Michael and Keith travelled to Oxshott to represent Clymping PC in the SCPA Secretaries Cup. After a poor start, losing the first three league games, we went through into the Plate competition in the afternoon. Winning the first game by a whisker, Clymping went on to win the second game and finally, the Plate, by beating Worthing 2 in the final. A fantastic result in our first regional competition!

The excavations are almost complete and materials are ordered. Delivery should be next week so polish up your Boules and get ready to play.
